Your research stays on your computer. The app does not collect usage data, and nothing you write or analyse is sent anywhere unless you use a feature that needs to, and you are told when it does.
This policy covers the Inqerio app and its account service. This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking; our web host keeps ordinary server logs (such as IP addresses) for security, for a short time.
Who we are
Inqerio is made by CodeSculpt, Ontario, Canada. This policy explains what the app does with information about you and your research. It follows Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What stays on your computer
Your projects, documents, references, notes, comments, evidence library, data files, analysis scripts and results, qualitative sources and coding are stored in the folders you choose and in the app’s own folder on your computer. We do not have a copy of them.
The app keeps a few settings on your computer, such as your display name, theme, AI choices, which files AI may read, and your access code if you entered one.
What the app does not do
It does not send usage analytics, tracking data or advertising identifiers. It does not read files outside the project folders you open, except files you choose to import.
When the app connects to the internet
Literature searches: when you run a search or look up a DOI, your search terms or the DOI are sent to the databases you chose (for example PubMed, Europe PMC, OpenAlex or Crossref). Their own privacy policies apply.
Free local AI: if you agree during setup, the app downloads Ollama and a model from ollama.com. After that the model runs on your computer and your text does not leave it.
Updates: the app checks for new versions on GitHub, where the installers are published, and downloads them. The check sends the app’s version and your operating system, nothing about you or your work.
Inqerio AI (coming with paid plans): the text you select for an AI action is sent to our AI service and the model provider it uses, only for that request, and not used to train models. Participant data, such as transcripts and data files, is never sent without your explicit consent for that project.
Collaboration (coming soon): this policy will be updated, and you asked to accept it, before it starts.
Your account (optional)
You can use the app without an account. If you create one, we keep your email address, an account number, and your plan and subscription (which plan, its status and dates). Your projects, files, notes and analyses are not part of your account and stay on your computer.
Sign-in works with a one-time code sent to your email address; there is no password. The account service runs on Supabase, hosted in Canada. The sign-in emails are sent through our email delivery provider, which receives your address only to deliver them.
Payments are handled by Stripe, which sells the subscription to you as reseller (merchant of record): Stripe receives your name, billing address and card details on its own page, works out sales tax or VAT, and keeps payment records as tax law requires. Its own terms and privacy notice apply to the purchase. Your card details never reach us; Stripe tells us whether your subscription is active and when it renews.
We use this information only to sign you in, give you the plan you pay for, and answer your questions. We do not sell it or share it with anyone else.
You can delete your account at any time from the account menu (Your account, then Delete account). This ends any subscription immediately and removes your email address and plan from our service.
Participant and sensitive data
You are responsible for handling research participants’ data as your ethics approval and data agreements require. The app helps by keeping files hidden from AI until you allow them, sending AI only the text you select (or, if you turn on AI review while writing, the paragraphs you change in documents you allowed), and keeping qualitative AI on your own computer by default.
Your choices
You can stop using any online feature, turn AI off for any file, and delete the app and its folder at any time. Because your research is stored on your own computer, deleting it there deletes it entirely.
